REP. OGLES INTRODUCES THE STOP THE INVASION ACT

April 20, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Ogles (TN-05) introduced the Stop the Invasion Act, which would force President Biden to secure the border against the invasion of illegal aliens and protect American citizens.

“The policies of the Biden Administration have led to an all-out land invasion at our Southern border. He has turned a blind eye to the millions of Americans suffering from the flood of drugs and crime coming across our border,” said Congressman Ogles. “It doesn't have to be this way. Having weak borders is a choice. Biden has chosen to keep the border open and as a result, it has devolved into an ungoverned hellscape. If the President won’t take action to secure the border and protect the American people, Congress must make him, and that’s exactly what this bill would do.”

“The invasion along our southern border has gone on for long enough. Joe Biden has failed to enforce the law, so this bill will force him to do his job.” - Congresswoman Lauren Boebert

“For 25 straight months, Joe Biden has welcomed at least 150,000 lawbreakers into our country.  6.3 million illegal aliens have walked across our southern border since Biden took office, including more than one million in the last six months. Joe Biden created this crisis, and the Stop the Invasion Act is a step in the right direction toward fixing this problem.” - Congressman Paul Gosar

“President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas have intentionally surrendered operational control of our southern border to the  Mexican crime cartels. I am pleased to join Rep. Andy Ogles’ efforts to stop the flood of illegal entries and end the Biden border invasion.” - Congressman Bob Good

“Joe Biden’s reckless open-border policies have led to over 6.3 million illegal aliens crossing our border on his watch, and we are likely to see an even bigger surge with the impending end of Title 42 authority on May 11. Although current law gives the President discretionary authority to suspend the entry of aliens if such entry is “detrimental to the interests of the United States,” we are not banking on Biden voluntarily using that power, even though it would be justified given the present border crisis. Congressman Ogles has introduced a sensible bill to require the government to bar certain aliens from entry in light of the current unsustainable migrant flows, and FAIR applauds him for his leadership on this issue.” - Dan Stein, Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) President

Background:  We’ve seen the detrimental effect the Biden Administration’s open border policy has had on the interests of the American people:

  • The first five months of FY2023 saw a 179.3 percent increase in fentanyl seizures at the Southwest border compared the first five months of the previous year.
  • Since the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, the United States had never seen 200,000 illegal alien apprehensions in a single month – until President Biden took office.
  • In 2022, the 200,000 monthly threshold was crossed for ten consecutive months (through December 31, 2022).
  • The number of unaccompanied alien children apprehended by US Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) increased by 212% from 48,681 in FY2017 to 152,057 in FY2022.
  • Well over six million illegal aliens have been apprehended at the Southwest border since President Biden took office.
