REP. OGLES SENDS LETTER TO AG GARLAND AND DOJ
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Andy Ogles (TN-05) issued the following statement:
“In the wake of the Covenant School shooting, there has been a movement by radical Leftists to victimize and legitimize the actions of the shooter because she identified as transgender. Make no mistake–she was a domestic terrorist who sought to kill and destroy,” said Congressman Ogles. “This type of targeted, brutal assault on Christians is nothing less than a hate crime.”
“I joined my colleague, Rep. Lance Gooden (TX-05), in a joint letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, urging him to open a hate crime investigation into the Covenant School shooting. The plain text of federal law makes clear that an act of violence against any person based on a number of factors, including their religion, is a hate crime. This type of violence is indefensible, unjustifiable, and grotesque. The anti-conservative rhetoric and constant attacks on Christianity by the radical Left have led to the violent murders of three children and three adults.”
“Radical trans organizations have come to the defense of the shooter by calling her senseless slaughter an ‘effective way to be seen’ and stating ‘hate has consequences.’ The FBI’s official definition of domestic terrorism is ‘violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature.’”
“The Covenant School shooter was an individual filled with deep hatred, so much so that she chose to shoot and kill innocent people. No one forced her to kill anybody–she acted on her own radical political and social beliefs. The Covenant School shooter was not a martyr; she was a murderer.”
